Maharashtra State
Maharashtra is situated in the western region of the country. The state shares borders with Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

The state's capital, Mumbai, is the commercial capital of India and has evolved into a global financial hub. The city is home to several global banking and financial services firms.

The state has a well-developed social, physical and industrial infrastructure. In addition to 16 airports, the state has two major and 48 minor ports. It also has a well-developed power supply grid. Maharashtra's infrastructure sector has grown significantly over the last decade, with a substantial expansion in the number of industrial clusters and public-private partnership (PPP) projects.

Maharashtra’s GSDP at current prices was 24.97 trillion (US$ 387.36 billion) in 2017-18 and accounted for 14.89 per cent of India’s GDP, the highest among all states
Highest FDI in India
Total FDI in the state during April 2000 to June 2018 stood at US$ 118.13 billion, the highest among all states in India.
Largest Container Port
Jawaharlal Nehru Port is the largest port in India in terms of container traffic. During 2018-19*, the port handled 53.25 million metric tonnes of traffic. (* tentative data till Aug 2018)

Significant production of sugarcane and pomegranate
Sugarcane production reached 72.64 million tonnes during 2017-18(Provisional). During 2016-17, the production of pomegranates was recorded at 1.44 million tonnes as per 1st advance estimates
Industrial powerhouse
Maharashtra is the most industrialised state in India and has maintained the leading position in the industrial sector in the country. The state is a pioneer in small scale industries and boasts of the largest number of special export promotion zones. The state has a share of 19.3 per cent in overall manufacturing GSDP.
Strong cotton production
Maharashtra is among the leading producers of cotton in India. The state produced 6.55 million bales cotton during 2017-18 as per 3rd advance estimates
